Safer Use


Safer UseDrug use is a complex, multi-faceted phenomenon that encompasses a range of behaviors. There are risks associated with drug use that may be most related to where drugs are used, how they are used or what kind of drugs are being ingested. Some ways of using drugs are clearly safer than others. This section outlines various options for people to approach their drug use consciously and to seek ways by which their drug use can be less dangerous.

Guidelines for Injecting in the Groin: A Femoral Injecting Resource. This resource was put out by the Asia Regional HIV/AIDS Project and geared toward outreach workers. It talks about the dangers of this type of injecting and the other options that they can discuss with their clients.



Safer Injection Facilities
Safe Injection Facilities (SIFs) are legally protected places where drug users consume pre-obtained drugs in a non-judgmental environment and receive health care, counseling, and referrals to other health and social services, including drug treatment.
