Allen Frimprong

Allen Kwabena Frimpong is a People for the American Way, Young People For Leadership Academy Fellow who works at the Harm Reduction Coalition as the Project Coordinator for a new harm reduction based HIV/STI & Substance Abuse prevention intervention being worked on with Black and Latino youth titled Brick Rebuilding. The formative research for this project was done in Newark, NJ, and the project will be piloted there in spring of 2008. Allen, is also a community organizer of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement Inc who coordinates an outreach program, called FEED NEWARK! for people who are homeless.

Don Bruner

Don Bruner is a 53 year old African American heterosexual male and long-term survivor of HIV/HCV.Mr. Bruner, is founder and executive director of Black Men Latino Men Health Crisis, Inc. (BMLMHC). BMLMHC founded in 2001 is a 501[c]{3}-not-for-profit corporation located in Rochester, New York. BMLMHC ’s mission focuses upon engaging heterosexual men and women of color and the community in an active role in HIV/STD prevention planning.Mr. Bruner provided the leadership advocating for the prevention needs of heterosexual men of color in New YorkState resulting in the PPG allocating supplemental dollars during its 2001 priority session, for the creation of prevention services for heterosexual men of color.Mr. Bruner is long-standing member of the Rochester Area Task Force on AIDS, Inc., (local Ryan White Care Network) and has over 15 years of experience in HIV service delivery. Mr. Bruner is a former member of the New York State HIV Prevention Planning Group (PPG or CPG) serving for seven years.

Dr. James Griffin

Dr. James P. Griffin, Jr. has been involved in behavioral health promotion, training, education, and research for the past thirty-three years. The last sixteen years of his career have focused on the prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention. Dr. Griffin is faculty at the Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) in the Department of Community Health and Preventive Medicine and in the Department of Pediatrics. For the past five years he has served as the principal investigator for the Imani Project .The Imani Project focuses on the re-entry of former inmates to the community and health promotion.Further, high school and college student peer educators deliver evidence-based prevention messages to their fellow students.The primary aims of the project include alcohol, tobacco, and other drug; HIV, and hepatitis prevention.


 


 


Hepatitis C Support Groups For Drug Users: Facilitators Manual
This guide was developed with the collective input of syringe exchange participants and service providers actively involved in hepatitis C (HCV) support groups throughout New York City. Together we have compiled some ‘best practices’ for establishing HCV groups within a harm reduction framework. We also offer facilitators practical suggestions and creative tools for effectively maintaining a group that meets the unique and varied needs of former and active drug users.

Frontline Hepatitis C Training: A 3-Session Curriculum For Syringe Exchange Peer Outreach Workers
The Frontline Hepatitis C Training introduces basic concepts about outreach work, peer education, and hepatitis C using a standard format. This 3 session training was designed to help syringe exchange peers integrate hepatitis C into their work with current and former drug users.
